Biodegradable Weed Suppressant Mat
Great for weed suppression when doing native planting installations with container plants (e.g., hedgerows in weedy areas, or landscaping projects with plugs). Used in place of traditional black plastic landscaping fabric this mat breaks down over time, not leaving plastics in the soil the way traditional fabrics would.
Made of aspen/popular (90% +/- 2%) and a synthetic binder (10% +/- 2%). Rolls are 50 ft by 5 ft (250 Square Feet), about 1/4 inch thick.
Select a Full Roll, or the product can be cut to size by linear foot (5’ width).

The manufacturer of this product is LSC Environmental Products. It is not organic certified, and cannot be used on organic certified crop land (due to the synthetic binder), but it can be used on adjacent habitat areas (at least 10 feet from organic certified land). The mat is laid at planting time, and holes are created for plants. It breaks down with time, while providing weed suppression and erosion control as desirable plants fill in the space. General maintenance of the planting includes incidental weed removal where holes were created and planted in, and manually enlarging the holes around plants as needed as they are growing / expanding their footprint over the first 2-3 years. We have seen this product successfully used in native plantings as a groundcover, between rows of cultivated berries, cut and used as weed suppressant mat around the base of planted trees and shrubs, and in a variety of other applications.
